The following criteria are considered in approving new student groups.  When evaluating new group requests, staff consider the degree to which the proposal meets each of the established criteria.  Those proposals that best meet all the criteria listed below will most likely be approved.

Special Registration Statuses for Undergraduates

Stanford students are expected to be fully engaged in their academic programs so that they can complete their undergraduate degrees in four years. Hence, undergraduates are expected to carry a full-time academic load of at least 12 units per quarter and to pay the requisite regular tuition rate. Less than full-time study, and consequently reduced tuition, may be permitted in the categories specified below. The Registrar, in consultation with the Subcommittee on Academic Standing, is responsible for approving each request to register for less than a full-time academic load.

IV. Guiding Principles for Responding to Reported Acts of Intolerance

A. Attention to the target and community impacted by an act of intolerance:

When an act of intolerance (real or perceived) has occurred, immediate attention will focus on the well-being of the target and the community members impacted by the incident.

B. Attention to the perpetrator or alleged perpetrator:

When an act of intolerance has occurred and a student has been identified as the alleged perpetrator, she/he will be treated fairly.

Undergraduate Honors

Stanford recognizes exceptional undergraduate academic achievement with the following honors designations upon recommendation of a major department or program:

Distinction

In recognition of high scholastic attainment, the University awards the Bachelor’s Degree with Distinction. Distinction is awarded to 15% of the graduating class based on cumulative grade point averages calculated at the end of Winter Quarter. Distinction is noted on both the transcript and diploma.

Community Arts Fellowship

Community Arts Fellows (CAF) will have the opportunity to spend a summer working full-time in the areas of curating, presenting, outreach and arts education. Fellows may work in the United States or abroad. Upon selection, the Executive Director of the Institute for Diversity and the Arts (IDA), external link and Haas Center staff will pair fellows with an appropriate placement organization and an academic mentor.
