A special issue of Environmental Justice will be dedicated to critical perspectives on the intersection of environmental justice, participation, and the law. In recent years there has been an increasing interest in environmental justice and urban (EJU) questions in a broadening range of issues, including unequal exposure to air pollution, basic sanitation, and housing. At the same time, there has been a marked interest in questions of citizen participation in many domains, from urban policy to policing, and scholars have argued that in some settings this has led to a number of positive outcomes, from better decision-making to more civic engagement.
