Haas Summer Fellowship

The Haas Summer Fellowship Program provides an opportunity for students to design and implement full-time, summer service projects that help communities take a creative approach to addressing their needs. Fellows work to alleviate some of society’s most pressing concerns across the U.S. and in other countries. Projects vary in size and scope, working with diverse constituencies and addressing a wide range of issues. Fellows may work in any field of interest. Students are encouraged to think about how their academic background and prior experiences might be useful to organizations and communities trying to develop better ways of addressing challenges they face. Fellowship funding cannot be used for programs that require a participation fee.

• Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralyzed, Dhaka, Bangladesh
• Maharashtra Dyslexia Association, Mumbai, India
• Educational prairie garden with Audubon Society in Lincoln, Nebraska
• Reproductive health program in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam
• Designing and creating a mural with an immigrant community in Oxnard, California
• Summer Technology Camp in conjunction with California Children Services in San Francisco
• Needs assessment and outreach projects with various refugee communities
• Distribution and assessment of LED solar lights in South Africa
• Curriculum development for National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC
• Diabetes prevention and treatment education in Firebaugh, California
• Leadership development for teen mothers in East Palo Alto
• Seismic retrofitting of schools in Shimla, India

Each Haas Summer Fellow receives a base stipend of $4,000 award to support travel and living expenses during the summer. Financial aid and supplemental funding is available to students who qualify.
