Context
East Palo Alto Stanford Academy (EPASA) offers an exciting two-year academic support program opportunity to middle-school students in the Ravenswood School District. Our mission is to support middle school students from the Ravenswood City School District to pursue academic excellence throughout middle school, high school, and into post-secondary education. We challenge young people to learn in a structured, supportive, and academically-enriching environment where they can also explore their leadership potentials. EPASA strives to enhance students' academic and personal skills and strategies, as well as their social and self-awareness.
Through their leadership in EPASA, Stanford student participants interested in youth and education become involved in the Ravenswood community. Serving as mentors, they gain valuable insights into the larger social and policy issues impacting students' experience in local schools.
During the school year (October to May), EPASA offers a Saturday program consisting of project-based math and language arts curriculum and workshops designed to prepare our students for a successful academic future. EPASA also provides a five-week summer program for students consisting of academic and elective classes and weekly service, swimming, and field trips. Education and Youth Development Fellows staff the summer program.
EPASA participants are highly motivated and represent differing academic abilities and socio-cultural backgrounds. It is a joint student- and staff-run organization. We are looking for student coordinators to participate in mentor outreach, planning curriculum, workshops, field trips and overall supervision of activities for the school year program (October through May).
