Note: Coordinators are required to make a three-quarter commitment.

Context
Stanford College Prep (SCP) provides low-income, first-generation college-bound high school students from East Palo Alto Academy High School (EPAA), a Stanford New School, with year-round academic and social support to prepare them to undertake a college education. Participants enter our program in their 9th or 10th grade year and stay with us through high school graduation.
An important component of SCP is our Academic Success Program, in which 9th and 10th grade high school participants attend afterschool tutoring at EPAA once a week and 11th and 12th grade participants attend evening mentoring at the Haas Center for Public Service twice a week. We are seeking coordinators to recruit and support undergraduate volunteer mentors and develop an afterschool curriculum that includes academic enrichment and personal development support for our youth participants.

- experience working and communicating with a diverse group of high school-age youth
- experience in program coordination/management (previous experience in SCP or another college-prep program preferred but not required)
General Job Duties
- assist with tutor recruitment, selection, training, and appreciation
- lead a team of 3–15 tutors in providing individual academic assistance to students and assesing training needs
- monitor academic progress and school attendance of program participants and identify strengths and areas in need of improvement
- provide tutors with student academic progress reports
- motivate first-generation students to pursue higher education
- maintain accurate attendance and other program records
- help organize monthly workshops for program participants
- participate in Haas Center sponsored activities for student leaders
- attend weekly staff meetings and staff-development events
Specific Job Duties:
Mentor Coordinator (9th/10th Grade)
- support program participants in 9th and 10th grade
- coordinate after school sessions every Tuesday from 3:00–5:15 PM at EPAA and some Saturdays for Autumn, Winter, and Spring Quarters
- help develop an academic enrichment curriculm focusing on developing math and English skills, CaHSEE test prep, and GPA improvement
- be prepared to drive tutors to EPAA every week (Haas vehicle provided)
- Note: The MC will only be working with 10th graders during Autumnl Quarter and newly recruited 9th graders and some additional 10th graders in the beginning of Winter Quarter
Mentor Coordinator (11th/12th Grade)
- available to coordinate on Mondays 6:00-8:00 pm and Thursdays from 5:30–8:00 pm at Haas and some Saturdays during Autumn, Winter, and Spring Quarters
- help develop a college-readiness curriculum that focuses on maintaining a strong academic standing (11th)
- ensure that 100% of 11th grade students prepare and take the SAT I exam by May 2011
- help develop a college-readiness curriculum that focuses on the financial aid and college application process, transitioning to college, and maintaining a strong academic standing (12th)
- help ensure that all 12th grade participants apply to college and scholarship opportunities
- Note: Basic understanding of the California system of higher education and financial aid process is strongly preferred for this position
