Adam Kircher ‘07, George Wang ‘09 Ph.D., and Kiah Williams ‘07 are the cofounders of Supporting Initiatives to Redistribute Unused Medicine (SIRUM). As the 2011–12 Haas Center Visiting Practitioner, the nonprofit organization provides a way for health organizations to share unused drugs with underserved patients. At the same time, SIRUM's redistribution of pharmaceuticals decreases the amount of toxic chemicals added to landfills. The nonprofit organization offers leadership opportunities for students interested in exploring public service through social entrepreneurship, fieldwork, government partnerships, and academic research through the lenses of health care and environmental sustainability.
