Flourish Stories

#flourishtogether

The Flourish is honored to host the second annual Flourish Stories to continue sharing courageous stories of Stanford students and their experiences of finding hope, healing, resilience, and joy through their mental health journeys.

This year, we will incorporate photos captured by students to represent their lives, points of view, and experiences with mental health and well-being, and ultimately depict how they are able to flourish through challenges encountered as Stanford students. Captions will be added to these photos to give context and help further draw readers into your journey. Together, along with a select group of Stanford affiliates, we will select images to be displayed at a campus-wide Flourish Together event and in a traveling exhibit across campus during the month of May. Sign up to join Flourish Stories here.

We can't wait to help you share your Flourish Stories!

A Journey Beyond the Finish Line

Always the goal but never truly representative. In life, there are no first places- only the journey. As my athletic career comes to an end, I’ve come to realize that the expectations and mind projections we place on ourselves are only illusions. Life is a single-player game and the only judgment that truly matters is my own. I am in control. I am the master of my fate, the captain of my soul.

Relaxation Station

This Monday, I decided to spontaneously drive to Half Moon Bay alone to try to relieve some stress and do something nice for myself. I spent over an hour reading a book by the ocean as I listened to the crash of the waves. I felt at ease. The hectic week ahead suddenly seemed less hectic.

Writing: Good for the Soul

Journaling has been something I do both when my mind is in a positive and negative space, or anywhere in between. It is my safe space. I have found that pouring out my thoughts on paper frees up space in my mind that would usually be consumed with rumination. There have been numerous times when I begin writing from a place of distress and end in a much calmer state of mind.
