Stanford students have access to support services for medical and mental health needs outside of Vaden Health Services' regular hours. Multiple 24/7 options are available at no cost, including virtual care platforms, nurse advice lines, crisis intervention services, and confidential support for those experiencing sexual violence. All services ensure that timely care is available whenever unexpected challenges arise.
After-hours Medical and Mental Health Services When Vaden Health Services is Closed
Sometimes challenges can arise unexpectedly, and it's important to know that support is available when you need it most. Below is a list of after-hours medical and mental health services that can assist you outside Vaden Health Services’ regular clinic hours (M-F: 8:15 am - 5:00 pm; Sat.- Medical Services only: 11:00 am - 3:00 pm), ensuring you have after-hours services when Vaden is closed, whether for urgent medical attention or mental health support.
TimelyCare
TimelyCare offers 24/7, 365 days a year, free/no-cost virtual medical and mental health support for all currently enrolled Stanford students. This includes services such as on-demand treatment/advice for common health issues, on-demand emotional support to talk about anything, scheduled medical or counseling appointments, and guided self-care content. This service is free and accessible via video or phone consultation. To get started, download the TimelyCare app and log in with your Stanford credentials. FAQs about TimelyCare and how to register are available here.
Access TimelyCare first for BOTH urgent and non-urgent medical needs. No appointment is needed, and services are available year-round (including summer) in every US state.
Medical Advice
Students have two options to receive free/no-cost medical advice when Vaden Health Services is closed, and the concern can’t wait until they are open:
- Seek a virtual visit with a clinician through the TimelyCare app
- Call for nurse advice after hours at 650-498-2336. Select Option 1 for Medical Services, and then Option 2 to be connected with after-hours services.
Urgent Mental Health Support
Students may call Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at 650-723-3785, 24/7, for immediate mental health support. A crisis specialist can offer intervention and emotional support, along with referrals to further resources as needed.
TimelyCare is available for non-urgent/routine mental health support.
Support for Students Experiencing Sexual Violence
Students dealing with issues related to sexual assault, harassment, or trauma can find help through the Confidential Support Team (CST) Hotline. This service is available 24/7 to provide listening support and assist in navigating next steps. For help, call 650-725-9955.
