Spring Into Awareness

Spring is all about growth, fresh starts, and staying grounded in the now. As the new quarter begins, we’re taking a moment to pause and center on what matters- our well-being, our community, and the things that help us feel more connected and supported. In this edition, we’re exploring important topics like alcohol, fentanyl, eating disorders, neurodiversity, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and practices for staying present in the face of uncertainty. Whether you're going through something, supporting someone else, or just exploring ways to take care of yourself, we hope these reflections and resources meet you right where you are.

The Power of Now

As a senior going into my final quarter at Stanford, it’s easy to get bogged down in feelings of unease, uncertainty, and even dread. Yet, by focusing on the things I can control today like what activity I should do for self care or where I want to go on my next excursion, I can make sure to enjoy where I am now instead of zooming out to the future.

In Focus

More Than Just Appearances: Navigating Eating Disorders and Mental Health

If you or anyone you know is experiencing disordered eating patterns and are struggling with how to best cope with them, read on to learn about some aspects of eating disorders that are more prevalent than you might think. Beyond appearances, eating disorders can be about things such as control, self-worth, and co-occurring mental health symptoms. Comments on weight can do more harm than good, and struggles look different for everyone. Seeking help is brave, and recovery can be an ongoing journey- one you don’t have to face alone.

Stand in Solidarity For Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM)

This April, the Stanford community comes together to raise awareness about sexual violence and stand in solidarity with survivors. Through educational programs, campus events, and opportunities for collective action, SAAM encourages students, staff, and faculty to learn, reflect, and make a difference. From advocacy through poster-making to community action on Denim Day, there are many ways to show support and spark change. Explore how you can get involved and help build a culture of care and accountability.

Tip of the Month

Changing Our Reality Through CBT

You might have heard that the triangle is nature’s strongest shape. What if it played a huge role in how we think and view others? Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT is understanding how three specific things, thoughts, emotions, and behaviors all impact each other. Think of any situation: does something bad happen and you instantly crash out? Or, are our behaviors the result of our thoughts and emotions (and vice versa!)?  Through utilizing CBT, we can try to avoid any unnecessary turmoil.

Flourishing at Stanford While Neurodiverse

The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) is highlighting its dedicated resources for neurodiverse students, including those with ADHD, learning differences/disabilities, autism, or executive functioning challenges. Through individualized coaching, small-group support, and specialized tutoring, CTL empowers students to embrace their learning styles to flourish here at Stanford. Whether you have a formal diagnosis or simply self-identify as neurodiverse, these programs offer an affirming space to build skills, confidence, and community. Learn more about how CTL is creating inclusive pathways for academic success.

National Fentanyl Awareness Day

On Tuesday, April 29th, 11:30 am - 2:00 pm, stop by White Plaza for custom tote bags, snacks, raffles, and a chance to talk with experts about fentanyl and preventing overdoses. Free Naloxone and fentanyl test strips will be available. Join the Naloxone training from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm with the PEERs, then after, head over to the DanceSafe tent to see a demonstration of how to properly use fentanyl test strips and reagents.
