In collaboration with LBRE and as part of the Stanford Classrooms Reimagined project, five new classrooms and an additional study area in the Lathrop Library basement are now in use. This initiative is a ten-year strategic plan by the University aimed at understanding and meeting the evolving teaching and learning requirements of both faculty and students.

Inside the Classrooms

  • Flexible spaces with moveable furniture and fixtures
  • Acoustic treatment dampens sound from classrooms and discussions
  • Portable whiteboards fixed to tables
  • Videoconferencing built-in with visible, retractable screens and AirPlay capabilities
  • Rolling chairs for students to work in groups and form discussion circles
  • The Lectern doubles as a disability desk for instructors or students

Creating A Study-Ready Environment

  • Proximity to study spaces and computing resources: The Lathrop Learning Hub and 24-hour study space on the floor above
  • Plentiful study spaces for students to come early or stay after class
  • Touchdown spaces for instructors to prep right outside classrooms

Building New Classroom Spaces

  • Three large small group and two small flex chair classrooms
  • Sound-proof glass, flexible layouts, natural light, and lots of special touches, built with teaching and studying in mind
  • Strong visibility around corners and throughout the floor provides safety and security

Designed for Teaching and Learning

  • Designed specifically to help students study, reflect, and learn
  • Special touches help students study - sound-dampening chairs, ample whiteboards on walls
  • Skylights that bring lots of natural light across the entire space
  • Bio spaces with natural imagery, wood ceilings, and calm colors to promote greater well-being
  • Raised ceilings create a feeling of more room and open areas
  • The project helps meet the greater demand for large classrooms
  • Inputs and ideas used from annual Classrooms Reimagined Surveys with students and faculty
  • A capital project managed by LBRE with Student Affairs collaboration on key elements
  • Fast turnaround time - Started in Spring 2024 and finished in Autumn 2024
