Students are strongly encouraged to obtain a COVID-19 vaccine booster, if eligible, prior to returning to campus for the winter quarter. And, all eligible students will be required to provide documentation of a booster, unless they have a medical or religious accommodation, by Jan. 31, 2022.

Booster Shot Clinic

Starting Thursday, 01.13.22, Vaden Health Center will be offering MODERNA booster shots to students from 0900 to 1300, Mon - Fri at the Arrillaga Center for Sports and Recreation (ASCR). Booster shots will be offered by appointment only  - appointments can be made through vadenpatient.stanford.edu. At this time, only students who have received FDA authorized/approved COVID-19 vaccines are eligible for the Moderna booster (you are eligible if you have received 2 doses of Pfizer more than 5 months ago, 2 doses of Moderna more than 5 months ago, or 1 dose of Johnson and Johnson's Janssen COVID-19 vaccine more than 2 months ago). Students who have received more than 3 doses of Pfizer or Moderna, or more than 2 doses of Johnson and Johnson's Janssen are not eligible for a Moderna booster through Vaden at this time.

During the week of Jan. 24 – 28, and on Jan. 31, Vaden plans to offer Pfizer booster shots for students who have WHO approved vaccinations and are ineligible for the Moderna booster. (Currently, Walgreens at Vaden is offering limited appointments for Pfizer boosters.)

What if I have a vaccination exemption?

Boosters are not required for students with Vaden-approved medical or religious exemptions. 

Where can I get a booster shot?

Boosters for those who are eligible are available through local health care providers and pharmacies. In the United States, VaccineFinder helps identify providers who offer COVID-19 vaccines. In the Stanford area, boosters are available at Stanford Health Care locations, and in California, boosters can be scheduled through the California Department of Public Health. Information about students’ booster doses can be loaded into the Vaden portal at any time. As a reminder, boosters in California are available for:

  • Anyone aged 16 or older who has completed their primary vaccination series with the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine at least six months ago
  • Anyone aged 18 or older who has completed their primary vaccination series with the Moderna vaccine at least six months ago
  • Anyone aged 18 or older who has completed their primary vaccination series with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine at least two months ago
