Main content start

Leaving a party and need to get home? Have a late night study session and don’t want to walk alone at night? Nervous about having to walk through campus? Tired after a long day and don’t want to walk? Come across an intoxicated student by themselves and want to make sure they get home safely? Call 5-SURE!

5-SURE Safe Rides is a FREE, 7 nights a week service available to all Stanford students, faculty, and staff. For over 40 years, 5-SURE has assisted thousands of students each quarter, by getting you home safely whether it’s from a night out at a party, from the lab, or from anywhere else on campus.

This team of student staff can help get you safely from point A to point B, seven days a week* from 5:00 p.m. - 2:00 a.m. (last call at 1:45 a.m.) during the academic year. This service aims to provide a safe alternative to walking alone at night by driving you to and from a variety of campus locations, parties/events, sporting events, campus residences, libraries, and other main campus buildings. Do not hesitate to take advantage of this service!

How do I request a ride?
Call 650.725.SURE (7873) to request a ride. Calls are answered in the order they are received, so do not hang up as you will be removed from the automatic queue. When calling 5-SURE, riders can help by being ready for pickup. 5-SURE asks that people keep an eye out for their vehicle with the 5-SURE logo on the side. 5-SURE Safe Rides does not restrict the number of rides a student takes in a given quarter, or even in a given night. Wheelchair accessible transportation is available upon request, just let the dispatcher know when you call. 5-SURE will pick you up and drop you off anywhere on campus, including Oak Creek Apartments.

Travel by foot with 5-SURE on Foot

5-SURE on Foot is a student-led safety initiative under the 5-SURE umbrella of services and is also provided at no cost to students. You can find these undergrads tabling on the Row on weekend nights offering water, snacks (Pop-Tarts!), stickers, and walks home from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. 5-SURE on Foot is prepared to handle a number of emergency situations. They are trained to administer Narcan if there is an opioid overdose, and can provide fentanyl testing strips upon request.

* 5-SURE does not operate during summer, Thanksgiving, winter and spring breaks, or finals.
