Spring 2021 Events & Gatherings

Main content start

Households and Household Gatherings

Beginning April 7, undergraduates can form households. Beginning April 14, undergraduates can organize private outdoor gatherings for up to 24 students from 3 households, an increase from our previous plans of up to 12 students from 3 households. You will find more information on our households and gatherings websites. Keep in mind a household can gather in approved common spaces inside dorms. Check in with your RA to learn more.

Fountain Hopping

We are working toward bringing back this time honored tradition. We’re thinking through how to do this safely and in accordance with current public health orders. More information is coming soon.

Frost Amphitheater, Anderson Collection, Cantor

Stanford Live’s Frost Amphitheater will host outdoor movies, in collaboration with the Office of Student Engagement. The Anderson Collection and Cantor Arts Center will reopen at 25 percent capacity on April 21. Stanford students, faculty and staff will be invited to a special museum preview weekend, April 16-18. Here’s where you can learn more.

The Arbor, Coupa, CoHo

The Arbor outdoor pub and gathering space -- created by students at Tresidder -- is scheduled to reopen April 15 in a limited capacity for spring quarter. Enjoy grab-and-go meals, music, game nights and more. All four Coupa Cafe campus locations and CoHo at Tresidder Memorial Union are open.

Dining Halls, Axe & Palm, Markets

Shirley Everett, Senior Associate Vice Provost for Residential & Dining Enterprises (R&DE),  welcomes students to dining, campus cafes and markets for spring quarter. The dining halls (AFDC, Wilbur, Stern, FloMo and Lakeside) will begin taking reservations for indoor dining on April 12 (up to 25 percent of dining room capacity). Students will receive an email with instructions for making reservations. In addition, the Axe & Palm, Market at Munger and EVGR Marketplace will all be open. All three locations accept Cardinal Dollars and Meal Plan Dollars and students are encouraged to use the R&DE Food ToGo app to order ahead. Limited indoor dining is available at the Axe & Palm. Visit the R&DE website for locations and hours of dining halls and cafes and markets.

The Stanford Bookstore

The bookstore has reopened for in-store shopping. Students eligible to enter the Academic Zone can stop by for textbooks, supplies, technology, accessories, grab-and-go food items, and Stanford gear. Bookstore staff are ready to assist you in finding what you need for spring quarter, including the latest tech accessories and gadgets to help you learn from anywhere. Store hours are posted here.

Outdoor Volleyball and Basketball Courts

The university is working to open certain outdoor volleyball and basketball courts consistent with Stanford, county, and state public health directives, and expects to have selected courts open by the end of the restricted activity period for outdoor recreation.

Stanford Athletics

Stanford Athletics will welcome friends and family of participating student-athletes and coaches beginning April 1. As details regarding attendance opportunities for broader audiences become available, they will be posted at GoStanford.com/HealthAlerts and through the Stanford Athletics social media channels.

Fraternity and Sorority Recruitment

Spring recruitment is open for many of our Greek-letter organizations. You will find all the information you need to know about recruitment and intake for all of our recognized fraternities and sororities on the Fraternity and Sorority Life website.

Cardinal Nights

Join Cardinal Nights for programming in person and digitally! We will help reintroduce in-person events at the Arbor, including bingo, crafts, and a stress relieving smash room. Every Friday, catch us on your favorite screen for activities like a magic show, trivia and a Q&A with Queer Eye’s own Jonathan Van Ness on April 2.

Office of Religious and Spiritual Life

Beginning April 15, the Office for Religious and Spiritual Life will sponsor outdoor religious services for students and, later in the quarter, Stanford Associated Religions Student Groups may apply through our office to host religious gatherings. ORSL continues to offer vibrant online spiritual programming including mindfulness meditation, yoga, concerts, story exchanges, movie nights and student podcasts. Students can participate in a three-day Summit on Activism or enroll in a quarter-long course that explores life’s most pressing questions. Students can Zoom in to University Public Worship each Sunday or join one of the many student religious organizations for weekly virtual services and online gatherings. For more information about upcoming religious gatherings, please see our website.
